Fine Art Wedding Photography: What It Means + 5 Reasons Why You Should Invest In A Fine Art Wedding Photographer | Memphis Wedding Photographer

Hi friend!I am so happy you stopped by! If you're reading this post, I'm going to assume you are in the process of planning your wedding! Or maybe you're dreaming of your future wedding and saving this for reference. Yay! I love photographing weddings and I am excited to expound a bit on the style and term Fine Art Wedding Photography. Webster's Dictionary defines "fine art" as

a type of art (such as painting, sculpture, or music) that is done to create beautiful things

an activity that requires skill and care

Being a fine art wedding photographer takes wedding photography and capturing your day to another level. Contrary to what you may think, fine art is not stiff, unnatural poses or funny lighting and editing. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Fine Art wedding photography is a photographer's intentional approach of storytelling your wedding day with an editorial style. I love the analogy I once heard: fine art photography like a fine wine. Most of us probably enjoy a glass of good wine. Similarly, luxury photography will keep your images timeless and age like a fine wine. You and your families will love and cherish your bespoke, heirloom images for years to come.Fine Art photographers primarily use and replicate medium format film to create refined and cohesive heirloom imagery. As a fine art wedding photographer, I walk very closely beside you as you plan your wedding, building a relationship with you and your future spouse. I get to know your personalities and what you love. Furthermore, I learn and understand the closeness of your family and friends. As a result, I photograph your day through an intentional narrative and fine art style. There truly is nothing else quite like it.

Here are 5 reasons why you should invest a fine art wedding photographer:

I. Photographer's vision: Every wedding is different and uniquely designed to each couple. Walking very closely with each of my couples as they plan helps me capture all the important details of the day. This allows me to be very intentional and creative vision for the day. I see the imagery I want to create even before I arrive on your wedding day; including the candid, unscripted moments -- I craft those with an intentional vision, too. II. Aesthetic: Fine art photography is heirloom imagery that feels refined, sophisticated and dreamy. Similarly, it is also timeless, classic and elegant. Fine art imagery embodies soft editorial posing and romantic moments. Furthermore, it is true to color editing, intentional with the use of natural light and usually incorporates medium format film. Clients drawn to fine art photography love the finer things in life such as florals, family heirlooms, fashion, architecture, and art, to name a few. III. Location/Venue: The choice of venue and location is a major, important factor that directly influences fine art photography and truly achieving that style. Here is a list of beautiful venues in the mid-south region that I highly recommend.VI. Elevated, story-telling imagery: A great deal of time and effort goes into making your images fine art; meaning: clean, decluttered, elegant and refined. In general, I do not shoot most details as they are presented to me, but rather, I style, rearrange, and adjust those details for an editorial look. Hiring an educated wedding designer also helps orchestrate styled, editorial details. V. Styled Details: One of my favorite elements -- the famous invitation flat lay! A lot of time goes into styling your wedding day details (the invitation suite, your dress, veil, shoes, jewelry, rings, bouquet etc) and they are all key elements to story-telling your day! These specific images really elevate the story-telling aspect of your gallery. I ensure to build plenty of time in the wedding day timeline specifically for this. In conclusion, if you want your wedding day told in a story-like, editorial style, you will find in a fine art wedding photographer. I would absolutely love to hear from you! <3xoxo, Mary Kate
